TSMC's Potential Fab in Texas

TSMC's Potential Fab in Texas

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) has recently been exploring the possibility of collaborating with Elon Musk’s Terafab project in Texas. However, disagreements have emerged over how the proposed facility would be operated and managed. Musk has reportedly maintained that TSMC would only be allowed to sublease the fab, whereas TSMC insists that any jointly developed facility should be operated by the company itself. Both sides have stood firm on their positions, and no agreement has been reached so far.

Surging global demand for semiconductors, particularly in the United States, has prompted TSMC to rapidly expand its manufacturing capacity. The company is currently constructing nearly 20 fabrication plants at the same time, reflecting the global demand for computer chips. At the same time, TSMC is experiencing strong financial growth, with net profit reaching a record high. The company supplies major technology companies such as Nvidia and Apple with semiconductors.
